Coverage for Facial Cosmetics, Dermal Fillers, and Botox for Oral Surgeons and Dentists

In an effort to expand their practices, many dentists and oral surgeons are performing facial cosmetic and botox procedures. Patients who, in the past, might have chosen these procedures to correct physical malformations are now turning to facial cosmetic procedures to improve their appearance and mitigate the signs of aging. Thanks to advanced medical equipment, most of these procedures can now be done in an office, although some may require a hospital or outpatient setting.

Common procedures, often performed by an oral surgeon because of his extensive education and training, include:

  • Facelift
  • Forehead or Brow Lift
  • Eyelid Surgery
  • Nasal Reconstruction
  • Lip Enhancement
  • Hair Transplants

Other facial cosmetic procedures include:

  • Botox Injections
  • Chemical Peel
  • Dermabrasion
  • Injectable Fillers

Your professional liability policy may or may not cover Facial Cosmetic Surgery. It is best to check with your agent to be sure you are covered—before you perform one of the above procedures. You should also consult the State of Florida Dental Practices Act regulating the use of facial cosmetics and dermal fillers for dentists and oral surgeons in Florida.

Remember that you should have coverage for ALL the procedures you perform. Some companies cover facial cosmetic procedures automatically, only requiring requisite training. Some add the coverage by endorsement. The cost, in general, is quite reasonable.
